M27, salary SGD3k --3.5k
Manufacturing industry, production.
5years working experienceBeen wondering how to finally get my salary breakthrough. It's been pretty stagnant since I joined 2 years back, quite hard to get pass SGD4k even if i stay put few more years. Should I change industry or ask for more responsibilities outside of my jobscope to increase my value? Changing company won't do much, can't even ask for 20% more bcz my current salary is within market rate. Any suggestion?

Since you felt switching companies won't give you much leverage, then maybe asking to take extra job scope would be good way to request to your employer. Or you may ask to move into different role with higher growth potential. At the same time, you could do some upskilling in fields like logistics or mgmt.

Hmm, If changing companies isn’t an option, consider asking for more responsibilities that align with higher-paying roles. Then you can justify yourself if you're asking for a raise.

I left a long term job a couple yrs ago after spending the last 2 yrs there being told I was a good employee & high performing, but only came w slight increase (2-3%). I was told I was doing everything right to get promoted, but kept hearing excuses on why tht promotion wasn't happening. I left for the exact same position at another company tht came with a $20k raise. My boss was shocked when I quit. Who knows, if u left the company now you might see more opportunities coming ur way.

If staying in the same industry limits your growth, exploring other industries with higher pay might be worth considering. Even just applying for different jobs regularly is a good. Keeps your interview skills from getting rusty. And if you get the job you have better pay, hours, or learn new skills that you can leverage for even more better pay!
