I got an unexpected call from a recruiter and was really excited about the opportunity. When she asked about my salary expectation, I gave X number, and she seemed really pleased & now arranging interview for me. But after checking the company's reviews, I realized their benefits—especially health insurance—aren't very good, and the longer commute will cost me more too. Is it still okay to ask for a higher salary now, or could that cause some tension?

I think it’s perfectly reasonable to revisit your salary expectation, especially after learning more about the company’s benefits and the commute. Just be transparent about your concerns and explain why you’re asking for the adjustment. Maybe they can consider that for you

Yes for sure! You can always raise that up, it’s better if you raise now than after you’ve agreed everything then only you raise it will cause them headache.

Just be open and professional. See if the recruiter can try negotiate with the employer regarding ypur salary expectation

lesson learned. without much knowing of what's going on or up coming, never give any potential to checkmate yourself. and agency are just another saleperson. many mistaken them for headhunter. there are huge difference between both. saleperson going through data, job matching for one and company. headhunter understand company needs and go "hunting" and study one strength to enrich one to elevate the company. sadly, many mistaken "saleperson" for headhunter.
