People at the office view me as someone who is cold/shy, not friendly, likes to be alone etc. Truth is, I'm the opposite of that. But I'm just not comfortable enough to show my real self. I plan to stay on like this, so when I quit later, i won't feel bad leaving them behind. Also, don't think I'll ever contact them again. Am I mean for being like this?

It’s understandable to feel the need to protect your true self in a work environment. Have you considered gradually opening up in small ways to see how they respond?

It's alright to feel like your coworkers don't get you, but keeping your distance might mean missing out on some great connections. While it's totally cool to want your space, being open to others could make work more enjoyable. You're not mean for wanting some alone time, but being friendly could lead to some awesome interactions.

Just my POV here, its okay if you need your own time but still be professional. We see the same face everyday so no harm to be friendly coz we might need each other help for our works related.

Ups to you but for me no harm to be friendly but still put my limit for socialise with people at the office.

It’s not mean to prioritize your comfort. Everyone has different ways of interacting. Just remember that building connections can sometimes enrich your experience at work.

Feeling shy or reserved doesn't make you a bad person. It's okay to take your time to feel comfortable around your colleagues.

If you’re planning to leave, it might be helpful to think about how you want to be remembered. Sometimes, small gestures can leave a positive impact without needing to change your personality.
-
You’re not obligated to connect deeply with coworkers if it doesn’t feel right for you. Just make sure you’re clear about your boundaries.
-
It's important to prioritize your mental health and comfort. Perhaps consider if there are any safe ways to express your true self without compromising your feelings

Leaving without regrets is a valid choice. Just remember that positive interactions, even brief ones, can enhance your work experience.
