Software developers in Singapore, is it true that many of you aim to become managers? In other countries, many developers prefer staying hands-on and pursuing the technical path. I’ve noticed that in Singapore, it seems like becoming a software development manager and focusing on decision-making is the goal for many. Does anyone else here actually prefer to stay hands-on and continue writing code instead of moving into management?

I think it depends on the company. Some places here have a strong technical career path with titles like 'Senior Engineer' or 'Tech Lead' that don’t require you to move into management. But yeah, there’s still a perception that management = success. Personally, I like coding but wouldn’t mind moving into a role where I can mentor juniors

Personally, I love coding too much to want to leave it behind for management. For me, there’s so much satisfaction in building things and solving problems hands-on. I know a few folks who prefer the managerial path, but it really depends on what drives you.
